About Us
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
Established in 2017, Charlotte Jacqueline School of Dance is an award winning school based in Richmond, North Yorkshire offering classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern Theatre, Jazz Musical Theatre & Drama to children and adults from aged three. Students have the opportunity to be examined in their work by the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) & the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA).
Our Story
Charlotte Turnbull grew up in the rural community of Reeth and began dancing at an early age. She opened the Charlotte Jacqueline School of Dance as a way of providing other children in rural settings the same chance she had to experience dance and theatre arts. As a local person to Richmond and the Dales, Charlotte has a strong community ethic which she extends to the school and students.

Charlotte studied at Preston Dance College gaining her teaching qualifications in both Tap Dance and Modern Theatre; whilst studying she was awarded the Faye-Knowles Chapman Award for Choreography and selected to dance as a northern associate for the UK Tap Dance team, Tap Attack. Following college, whilst working as a professional dancer and choreographer, Charlotte continued her studies with the Royal Academy of Dance gaining a Diploma in Dance Teaching studies & a BA(Hons) in Dance Education, qualifying her to teach the RAD’s world renowned ballet syllabus.

Charlotte has danced professionally in the UK and France, and was later head-hunted for a position in Geneva, Switzerland to teach contemporary dance having been trained by Donald Edwards, teacher at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and founding member of Phoenix Dance Theatre.

Charlotte has been teaching and performing professionally for the last ten years and currently maintains a 100% success rate in student examinations. With big aspirations to expand, in 2019 the school opened its own premises based inside The Station - Richmond's local arts venue. Determined to be an inspiring role model, Charlotte has been nationally recognised as Rural Young Person of the Year 2020 at the Rural Business Awards for her dedication to providing rural arts opportunities.
